KITCHEN QLEEN vs DANNY MYERS: The Return of Qleen Paper

0

The return of a “clean” Qleen Paper is all the fans really ask for, and that’s exactly what we got here. Facing a determined and consistent Danny Myers, this was the long-awaited Kitchen Qleen performance we’ve been hoping for.

Round 1: Old Angles vs. Versatility

Qleen came out swinging with the crack-head wife angles we’ve heard before. Though used by many emcees in the past, this angle still hit strikingly hard coming from him. He was able to couple these personals with punches and comedic bars that kept the viewer engaged.

Danny, however, was able to fight back in convincing fashion. What makes him so dangerous is his ability to use all tools in the battle rap satchel. He came back with hard-hitting personals about Qleen’s notorious drug use, mixed with strong punches and schemes. He’s the type of emcee that can do just as well in front of street emcees as he does in front of backpackers—not many are as versatile as “The Myers.”

His first round was put together better than Qleen’s, which allowed him to take the first round by the slightest edge.

Round 2: Stumbles and Redundancy

In the second, we get more of the same from Qleen as he navigates the drug life and circles back around to degrading Danny’s wife once more. It felt like a bit of lazy writing to use the same angle so much in the same battle, particularly since he didn’t even give it a rest for one round.

He was basically saved, though, by a near-choke from Danny. Myers was on the ropes with a heavy stumble in the second, but the “No Show” angle he eventually delivered was a hard-hitting personal that had the crowd eerily silent. They seemed to agree with what Danny was saying.

Had Myers been able to get through his material clean, he would have taken this round easily. But with such a clear stumble, we have to give the round to Qleen. His material was good, even if it was a bit redundant.

Round 3: Vintage Qleen vs. Real Talk

The third round was vintage Kitchen Qleen with rapid-fire, back-to-back haymakers. It was a great example of “writing up”—creating content that progressively gets better each round. I found myself both in awe and cracking up at some of the “big head” jokes we got from Qleen. He seems like he’d be comfortable doing an old-school D.L. Hughley roasting session.

Conversely, Danny decided to switch tactics and give Qleen a “Talk to ‘em” style round. It was incredibly effective; the way he efficiently broke down the rise and downfall of Qleen was surgical. Specifically, the comparison he drew between Qleen and Charlie Clips really hit home, accentuating the point in a way the crowd instantly felt. Once again though, Danny’s round was structured better than Qleen’s, meaning it flowed better together, perhaps exposing a bit of ring rust on the part of Kitchen.

The Verdict

Overall, we have a great battle here that is definitely worth a watch.

Winner: Danny Myers 2-1 (Taking rounds one and three).
